4 Stars A Step in the right direction
This product is much improved over the origional model. It latches securely to your 360, has metal instead of plastic in the power Port, and the power cord from the 360’s power brick fits securely in the plug on the Nyko EX (unlike the origional which barely held the plug in place at all).
The Nyko Ex performs very well. After 3 hours of gameplay, my 360 was fairly cool to the touch and the air pumped out of the back of the machine was cooler than what the 360 alone can do.
Some people say that even with the improvements, the EX will cause damage because it goes between the power cable and the power port on the 360. They also say that is robs power from the 360 and lowers its capabilites. I haven’t had any problems with it. The Nyko EX has not slowed my 360, or messed with the frame rate. Big Games like SVR 07, and Oblivion load with out any problems and play for an extended time without freesing or dropping frames.
I’ve talked to people who have had the origional Nyko intercooler since it was released (Dec. 2005) and haven’t had any problems. To be safe though I’m going with the EX over the origional intercooler.
If the fact that the intercooler comes between the power plug and the 360’s power port bothers you, a good alternative would be the Pelican brand Cooler, or the Intech Glowstand. I still feel that the improvements made to the Nyko design, better protects the 360, and will stand by this product. If anything does happen to my 360, which I doubt, all it does is give me an excuse to upgrade to an Eliete.

5 Stars Great Product
This is a great product, and necessary to keep your Xbox360 cool. The product is engineered well, no modifications needed.
5 Stars A must have for 360 owners
This product is amazing! I started worrying about rrof about the time my friend got them. My 360 never got HOT but warm enough to make me worry so I started reading up on it and found that the intercoolers have been redesigned and their flaws have been fixed. So I went to my local wal-mart and bought one for $20. I came home and put it on and it runs fine now my 360 is actually cool not just less hot but actually cool. The rumors about this piece of equipment (in my experience anyways) are completely unfounded my games are unaffected their are no problems with gameplay do to this taking power from the 360 even with the games like Oblivion, Mass Effect and Gears of War. Just remember 1 thing before you buy, MAKE SURE IT’S AN EX!
3 Stars Greatly improved over the original verson, but still flawed….
I bought this item right before Halo 3 came out (Sept 25 2007), and it really worked great! This device really moves a lot of heat! The console would still be slightly cool (not hot or warm by far) to the touch after many hours of gameplay!
But just a few days ago (today is Feb 25 2008) the intercooler ex would start to make a strange ‘whirring’ noise when I would start up the console. This noise was way louder than the way it normally sounds so it was almost impossible to ignore. I would try to squeeze the sides a little bit and it went away and it wouldn’t do it again during that whole gaming session, but once I turned it off and on again, it would start making that noise again!
So at that point I removed the intercooler ex from my xbox 360 and the metal part that was on the outside of the male part of the intercooler was literally stuck in the female part of the 360. I had to get a pair of pliers and remove this metal piece before I could insert the power cord into the 360.
So now, my cooling device is a 10 inch diameter fan. I have my 360 in the horizontal position and I have the fan positioned to blow air into the bottom of the 360. It might not look at cool but it works just as good as the intercooler did!
So my advice is either do what I’m doing now, or find a good cooler that is powered through USB.
EITHER WAY, MAKE SURE YOU ARE BLOWING AIR INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE CONSOLE.
I’ve seen a really cheap cooling device made by DOBE that goes on the bottom and it sucks air out from the bottom, instead of blowing air into the bottom like it should, which was making my 360 get VERY hot in a short amount of time so BE CAREFUL!
